2014.05.15 Kamo-sai

In the post about "Saioo," we had mentioned about the coming-soon Aoi -sai Festival. Is there anybody happened to be there? We would like to share some photos on that day today!

Aoi-sai has a formal name as "Kamo-sai." This is one of the biggest three festival held in Kyoto and had a long history. Kamo-sai was first held for pray for good harvest. Different from the well-known Gion-matsuri, which was for civilians, Kamo-sai was been in charge of the royal court of Heian period. Even in today it has maintained a solemn setting. This festival is not for celebration but for praying for blessing.

The ceremony is divided into two parts. One is the parade, and the other is the ritual held in both two Kamo shrines through which the parade passes. The parade is composed of members in Heian period clothes. As you can see, it is just like all these people are walking out of the history!

For the festival is always held in the middle of May when it is really easy to rain, this year the parade was also walk in rain, without surprise lol
Don't you agree it is really interesting seeing such an ancient clothes with plastic umbrella from convenient stores?
