On Jan. 1st, Japanese children expect to get otoshidama (pocket money) from adults. The money is usually put inside a "pochibukuro" (decorated envelop). The amount of money given generally relies on the child's age yet is frequently the same if there is more than one child so that nobody gets hurt.
